It's Friday

Which means in approximately 5 hours I will be on a flight headed back to SC for almost a week! I can hardly contain myself. The anticipation/excitement is killing me. I cannot wait to catch up with old friends, celebrate my cousin's engagement, sleep in my own bed at home for a few nights, and work my first event all by myself.

Speaking of firsts, I had my first Cadbury Creme Egg today. Well, actually 2 or 1/2 of two flavors. But anyways, back to the point...I recently restocked the candy bowl in our office and bought a bag of Mini Cadbury Eggs. They are one of my favorites, right up there with Reese's peanut butter cups.
We were discussing our favorite Easter candy and my coworkers could not believe that I had never had a Cadbury Creme Egg. It was not something that ever made an appearance in my Easter basket. So today, my coworker brought me a present:
Two Cadbury Eggs!
The chocolate was definitely my favorite. You should try it if you haven't already.

Here's to firsts and fabulous Fridays!

Spring has Sprung...

At least for the time being! I am absolutely loving the warm weather and extra hours of daylight in the evenings, especially on my walks home from work. The daffodils and tulips are in full bloom and I cannot wait for the Cherry Blossom Festival.
My cousin and I took advantage of the gorgeous weather on Sunday to walk around the National Mall. It was so fun to catch up while walking past the Washington monument and White House. It might have to become a regular weekend activity while the weather is so nice. Now, if only I had a spring break to look forward too...

The Lincoln

Last night for dinner, we went to The Lincoln in Dupont to celebrate a friend's birthday. Known for their seasonal American small-plate menu and distinctive cocktails, we were in for quite a treat. Some of the menu highlights included:

Signature Cocktail - Lady Lincoln (Made with gin and prosecco, it was so good!)

To Be Shared - Farmhouse Mac and Cheese

Roughage & Greens - Organic Kale Salad

Vegetables - Charred Brussel Sprouts (These were the best I've had in DC.)

Seafood - Shrimp 'n Grits

Dessert - Brown Butter Fudge Cake

Out of all the dishes we tried, it was impossible to pick favorite. Everything was delicious.

Not only was the food incredible but the decor was unlike anything I have seen before.

The floor is tiled with pennies - over one million according to the website.

Pictures of Lincoln line the walls.

But our favorite was the Lincoln chair, where we all piled in at the end of the night to take a picture. Apparently, you can request to sit there. Next time!

What I Baked on Sunday

I recently moved into a new house with new roommates in Georgetown. (Fun fact: we are all from South Carolina, including the three girls next door.) The first week I was there, my roommates threw me a welcome pizza party, complete with the latest episode of the Bachelor of course. The next night, the girls next door cooked me a pancake supper as it was Shrove Tuesday. So, I decided to return the favor by hosting a dinner party for everyone last night.

We started with a cheese and fruit tray with Sundried Tomato Spread and Pimento Cheese:
I took this picture before I sliced the apples.
The main course consisted of an orzo pasta salad, panko ranch chicken, and roasted asparagus:

For dessert, we had strawberry sorbet and buttercrisp cookies that tasted like waffle cones:
Everything came together so easily. I made the orzo during the day on Sunday then threw the chicken and asparagus in the oven a few minutes before everyone arrived. It was so fun to catch up and eat a delicious meal before the week began.

Food Truck Friday

My coworker and I have started going to Farragut Square on Fridays to get lunch from the food trucks. It is quite the popular spot to convene especially now that the weather is warming up. Just look at all the people:

Surfside is one of my favorite spots in DC and lately the truck has been stopping near the office. Who knew you could get great fish tacos in DC?!

I'm back!

I promise I haven't forgotten about my blog or my readers...I just decided to take a little hiatus. Blogging more was one of my new year resolutions and now that it is March I figured I better get to it. So, here is a little recap about everything that has been going on:

In September, we celebrated our 20th anniversary at work with a Gala for 200+ people. All of our hard work paid off that night as guests gathered at the Corcoran Gallery of Art for a delicious meal, a great program, and a surprise performance by Isaac Slade, the lead singer of The Fray. Here is a picture of us with him. He performed a new song, Be Still, that is on their newest album. I highly suggest you listen to it. It is amazing.

September quickly turned into October. I visited Mount Vernon for the first time and fell in love with the historic site. My sister visited for the weekend. I attended my first ever Clemson game – at the University of Maryland. We had a pumpkin carving party at our house. I attended the Washington International Horse Show and traveled to Memphis for my roommate's wedding.

And then it was November. My sister had to go to New York for work, so the entire family joined her for the weekend. Here is a link to her recap. The next week I headed home for Thanksgiving and had the best time catching up with friends at the Carolina/Clemson game.

Then it was back to DC for most of December where I toured Mount Vernon by candlelight and attended numerous Christmas parties before heading back home to spend the holidays with my family.

It's National Peanut Butter Lovers' Day

Did you know that March 1st is National Peanut Butter Lovers' Day?!

It's okay. I didn't know either until I was playing around on the internet this morning. But, what a great day to celebrate!

I think I love peanut butter as much as Bubba Gump loves shrimp and can eat it in as many ways. So in order to ring in the day in true fashion, I am having some peanut butter at every meal! Not that I needed an excuse of anything. But thankfully, my coworker just happened to bring in a jar today.

P.S. I know I owe you all some major life updates. Working on that soon!
