Monday Musings

1. I had every intention of blogging multiple times last week. Sorry for leaving you hanging.

2. The past three weeks have been such a blur. I have had something pretty much every night and the weekends have been just as busy. I'm certainly not complaining. It's just the new normal.

3. My first event was on Saturday and keeping with the trend, it rained. Thankfully it only sprinkled during campus tours but by the end of the night it was pouring.

4. I am not sure my shoes will ever be the same. I told my boss that next time I am wearing my rain boots with my suit dress.

5. How are we already more than halfway through September? October is right around the corner which I am not quite prepared for. I will be spending the first three weeks serving as an admission counselor and making rounds in Westchester, PeeDee, and Hartford.

6. I am so excited for fall weather. I had my first taste of pumpkin on Friday and it was pretty delicious. I can't wait to make pumpkin bars for Thanksgiving.

7. I have a confession. As much as I don't want to like Miley Cyrus, her song "Wrecking Ball" is rather catchy and I can't stop listening to it. I don't think it will ever replace "Call Me Maybe" but it has been on repeat for the last few days.

8. I grocery shopped at Aldi last week for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. It might be my new go to since there isn't a Trader Joe's in Sparkle. You can't beat $0.79 spinach and $0.99 spices.

9. I know I am a little late to the game, but I have started watching Friday Night Lights and am hooked. I wouldn't mind being Connie Britton as Tami Taylor. I also can't wait for Revenge, Nashville, and Scandal to start back this week.

10. Happy Monday! Hope you have a great week!

Green Monster

On Sunday after the wedding, we headed to Cracker Barrel for brunch. By the time I got back to Spartanburg, I was craving some veggies in a major way. I swung by the grocery store and picked up the ingredients for a green monster smoothie. It was the perfect afternoon snack and helped hit the reset button after a fun filled weekend. This is the base recipe that I use but you can customize it any way. Feel free to throw in some blueberries or kale - whatever you have on hand.

Green Monster
  •  1 cup almond, soy, or regular milk
  •  1 frozen sliced banana (if not frozen, add ice)
  •  2 large handfuls of spinach
  •  1 tbsp ground flax (optional)
  •  1 tbsp peanut butter
  •  1/2 cup greek yogurt (plain or vanilla)
Combine all ingredients in a blender, blend until smooth, and enjoy!

Lately

Wednesday, our office teamed up with the Orientation Staff, RAs, and Men's Soccer to move the freshmen in. Move in day is a unique experience at Wofford and I loved getting to be a part of it again. After the last car was unloaded, we headed to Wade's for a feast. You can't beat macaroni and cheese and endless sweet tea.
Thursday, Mary Kathryn and I headed to Columbia to cheer on the Gamecocks. I didn't realize how much I missed college football while living in DC. I am hoping to make it to a few more games this season although my schedule is filling up quickly.
Saturday, I reunited with one of my college roommates and drove to VA to celebrate the marriage of two of our friends. The wedding was absolutely beautiful and so sweet. Both the bride and groom are Wofford grads, so the weekend also served as a mini reunion. I loved getting to catch up with friends I hadn't seen since graduation and it made me even more excited for homecoming.
